“Can I ask what you’re wearing? You smell AMAZING!”: Secret Scent Box Review

A sharp suit, a good watch, smart stubble or a fresh haircut – just a few things that give me a confidence boost and make me feel my best. However, an absolute staple in my daily (or night-out) routine involves a good quality fragrance; whether it’s a dependable Hugo Boss, Chanel Bleu de Chanel, Davidoff or youthful Carolina Herrera 212 for the daytime, or a heavier Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb or DIOR Homme for the evening, I love picking from a stable of high quality scents to apply depending on what I’m getting up to.

However, it can be an expensive minefield in just buying fragrances based on recommendation, without getting any road-testing in to see how a fragrance develops over the course of a few hours, not to mention the faff hunting down a sample. Finally, somebody has done something about this laborious ‘try something new’ process; enter Secret Scent Box.

Secret Scent Box – Fragrances for Him

The Secret Scent Box is a monthly subscription-based service that sees both women and women receive a selection of designer and branded aftershaves or perfumes; each box contains three fragrances that, if applied four times a day, should give the recipient around thirty days usage until the next month’s box arrives.

The packaging conveniently slips through the letterbox and is really nicely put together, so it really feels like a little luxury treat; the male version, which naturally is what I received, is adorned with ‘Hello handsome’ – how did they know?!?

At £15 a month, my first month’s box included three very different fragrances; Calvin Klein CK One Summer, Tom Ford Noir and Paco Rabanne 1 Million.

What I liked about this shipment in particular was the CK One Summer, a fragrance I admittedly wouldn’t have tried; a unisex fragrance, I quickly fell in love with the fresh citrus tones, juicy and exotic guava all underpinned by a woody cedar base. I found this fragrance was beautifully balanced and developed during the day, with several colleagues in my office complementing me on my choice.

I’ve been using the three fragrances virtually exclusively for the past fortnight over my supply of stronger Eau De Parfum fragrances, enjoying trying something a bit different that I perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise have given a go. At £15 a month, it perhaps sounds quite pricey at first for x3 3ml samples, however when compared against purchasing a new fragrance each month, it is obviously great value for money. I greatly enjoyed the variety and access to a number of branded fragrances whilst having something small enough to take with me to reapply over the course of the day and I am already thinking about taking up a subscription of my own, beyond this sample that was kindly sent to me.

Ladies – you needn’t worry – the guys at the Secret Scent Box also have you covered too, with a huge variety of global brands and cosmetic houses supplying their perfumes to try.

If you’re looking to give some new, high-quality branded and designer fragrances a go but don’t fancy splashing out £££ on aftershave/perfume too often, want a little bit of variety in your sophisticated scent cupboard, the Secret Scent Box is a great little way to treat yourself yo’self.
