We’ve covered a fair amount of style and grooming on the blog recently, from a review of the Secret Scent Box and Philips OneBlade to top tips covering office style and personal grooming; what we haven’t covered up until this point however is the more giftable element of the market, often a minefield of mass-market brands lobbing together their standard stodgy product in fancy cardboard packaging (often combining socks or a mug?) and charging a premium for the privilege.
Nobody – repeat nobody – wants the Lynx Africa gift set from Asda; this is where the good folks at The Bluebeards Revenge save the day.
The Bluebeards Revenge Deluxe Gift Box
Okay, so you’re going to spend a little bit extra than your run-of-the-mill high street men’s gift box with the sets from The Bluebeards Revenge starting at £19.99 (the one reviewed is currently available for £34.99), but the thought and effort, not to mention the quality of the product received is significantly greater and will be appreciated as such. I really liked the gift box packaging and overall branding itself before even getting to the product – quirky but clearly serious in it’s intentions of providing quality grooming kit.
The The Bluebeards Revenge Deluxe Gift Box contains:
- 1 x 100ml Pre-Shave Oil
- 1 x 100ml Shaving Cream
- 1 x 100ml Post-Shave Balm
- 1 x Doubloon Bristle Shaving Brush
- 1 x 50ml Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
I decided it was time to lose the London-hipster beard I’d been growing over the last few weeks, the perfect opportunity to give The Bluebeard Revenue product a go; first impressions of the product? Well, really encouraging.
Starting with the pre-shave oil, this was great at preparing and moisturising my beard before I took a sharp skin-irritating razor to it; it certainly helped the process by removing the risk of nicks and bumps, pairing well with the shaving cream lathered up with the shaving brush to result in a smooth process.
The real acid test for the product was the post-shave balm, something that many high-street brands seldom get right, leaving a stinging or sore face after a shave… or in my instance, having your skin light up with razor rash like a flipping christmas tree. However, I am pleased to confirm that the balm was cooling to my sensitive skin, reducing any skin irritation; I later found out this balm is formulated with witch hazel and aloe vera which explains it’s success. Top marks.
So there we have it; whether you’re stuck for what to purchase that male loved-one in your life – or – fancy treating yourself to some higher-end premium shaving products, I would based on this experience suggesting taking a look at The Bluebeards Revenge. The now defunct FHM Grooming Awards voted this winner in 2003 and I can certainly see why.
