A year in review for Two Men About Town

2016 was a great year for us at Two Men About Town – we launched our little blog with much excitement back in May this year, and things have gone from strength to strength, including being recognised as a finalist in the MK Digital Awards in October.

We’ve had a blast (and on more than one occasion, got rather ‘merry’…) putting together our posts this year and can’t wait to crack on with 2017, but before we do, we thought we would produce a round-up of some of our favourite (and fleeting references to our not-so-favourite) things from this year, so sit back, relax… and enjoy 🙂

Le Bab – Soho, review

December is a time for traditions and one of the best traditions in the Robsribs household is the Annual Christmas Weekend away. Two days filled with London, musical theatre and a whole lot of food. This year, whilst Mrs P, The Child and I were enjoying our most festive of yearly treats, Mrs P turned to me and said ‘So where have you booked for dinner?’ I replied nonchalantly and with total confidence; ‘Booked? I don’t need to book, there will be loads of places open on a Saturday night. Besides, restaurants in Soho don’t accept bookings anyway. Everyone knows that.’

Fast forward 6 hours and there we stood in the dark, rainy, miserable London streets, 16 failed restaurants later having walked half a mile and yet still only ending up 20 yards from where we had first started hurling silent curses at each other. The more discerning of our readers will know from their own personal relationship experiences that this type of ‘adventure’ (let’s call it that for The Child’s sake if nothing else) very rarely ends with anything other than an inappropriately priced, overcooked steak or burger from a money swallowing, faceless chain of corporate construction. And it was with this inevitable conclusion looming large in our minds that we found Le Bab.

Ember, London’s Pudding Lane; we take a look at the latest nightspot in The City

London has itself a shiny new nightspot, Ember, an underground wine and cocktail bar with various rooms and intimate areas for socialising, enjoying pan-Asian small plates and drinking into the small hours, open until 2am Thursdays and Fridays. Now, it won’t be a great surprise to most of you that we love a good night out at TwoMenAboutTown, especially when checking out the very best restaurants and cocktail bars that London has to offer where we can enjoy some social shenanigans or two, so when the guys invited us down we were there in a jiffy.

Does Ember stack up as somewhere you’d want to spend an evening after a hard day in The City and would it deliver on it’s potential as a premium nightlife spot in the heart of London?

TwoMenAboutTown's Ultimate Night In

The Ultimate Night In; Two Men About Town stay home

SuburbanGent and I recently had the opportunity to live out an opportunity that doesn’t come around very often now that we’re grown ups and all that. A couple of posts earlier, you may remember that we were invited to check out the City Stay Apartments and so while we were there, we thought it would be a pretty good idea to try to make it the best night of it we possibly could. We gathered together everything we could and tested as many as possible to bring you what we would consider to be everything you need for the Ultimate Night In.

Needless to say just like most things in life that we put our minds to, we prepared thoroughly and proceeded to give it full beans.

The Don review Milton Keynes Indian restaurant

The Don Indian Restaurant – Milton Keynes; Review

Mention The Don Indian restaurant to most people in Milton Keynes and you’ll either be greeted by a vacant stare, or a “oh, that’s that place tucked away in the train station isn’t it?”. I’ll be honest, I was of the latter; The Don is situated in a unit in the town’s train station that has been home to a number of Indian restaurants over the years, most famously the site of the Jaipur until it moved across the road.

However, it was perhaps wrong of me to dismiss The Don as just another run-of-the-mill Indian tucked away, after all a recent Best Newcomer award at the Milton Keynes Food and Leisure Awards 2016 and a string of positive word-of-mouth recommendations suggests that something quite good was afoot from the new owners and worth taking a look at. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to take a look for myself when the opportunity presented itself and the chaps invited me down to sample a meal.
