Where are the best places to eat or drink in and around Milton Keynes?

Paris House's new 'blue' look

Spring 2018

‘Milton Keynes is full of chains’ they say. ‘There is nowhere good to eat!’ they say. Well, I say that it sucks to be them because while it’s true that there is an unfortunate glut of horrible, horrific and unnecessary chain restaurants here you just have to look a bit harder and you’ll find so many amazing people who are pulling out all the stops to get you the dinner you deserve. This is my list of the best independent options you’ve got in and around the area, these are places that I go to regularly and have rarely been disappointed at. If you don’t want to give your money to Chimichangas or any other cut and paste restaurant (and I wouldn’t blame you) then take a good look at some of these and join me in sticking it to the Man.

TwoMenAboutTown Turns One!

TwoMenAboutTown Birthday Box

Good Lord, what a year it’s been! A year later, a year older and we have learned a huge amount about blogging, eating and having amazing friends. We’ve written about so many different things that looking back on the 90 odd posts we’ve shared with you it’s too hard to mention them all so we thought we would give you another chance to check out a couple of our favourites that you might have missed the first time.

The Bagel Burger from The London Bagel Co. – is this the start of a burger revolution?

The London Bagel Co. - The Fat Bastard

At TwoMenAboutTown, it’s no secret that we like burgers. We hit some of the hottest chains last year and both Honest Burger and  Smashburger faired pretty well but special mention goes out to local boys Sizzlers whom we first sampled at the MK Feast with their epic hunger destroying buns of deliciousness. However, it’s not always good news and if you hadn’t noticed, we like burgers so much that we get really annoyed when people like Kua’Ania mess them up. For shame.

So when the guys over at the London Bagel Co. promised to show us the future of the burger as we know it, how could we refuse taking a look?

Local grub at the MK Feast, Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes

MK Feast Burger at Milton Keynes food festival Bradwell Abbey

Hot on the heels of our recent Deliveroo coming to Milton Keynes post, with some corporate stuff out the way, we feel that it’s about time for us to return to what we’re all about and love… local artisan food and drink.

Regular readers of Two Men About Town (TMAT) will know that we love the Milton Keynes food scene; whether it’s exploring new ventures such as Taco Shack Milton Keynes, new pizzeria Murati’s in Wolverton, Affamato Pizza, community cafe Heavenly Blends… or more well known but no less special haunts such as The Swan at Salford, The Black Horse in Woburn or Percy’s BBQ Takeaway, we’re blessed in the city town with a bursting melting-pot of fantastic local business offering home-cooked and locally-sourced grub.

Taco Shack Mexican Street Food, Milton Keynes: Review

Taco Shack Milton Keynes Mexican street food review

As a foodie, there are three things in particular that get me excited. “What are they?” I hear you ask… well my friends, let me share them with you:

  1. Local food and independently run business; I love the passion, the story behind the people that make the business tick and the obvious graft that goes into making something work.
  2. Street food in all is guises. It’s unapologetically messy, it’s sociable and its fun. Nothing better than grabbing something delicious with a bunch of friends in the sunshine with a cold beverage in hand.
  3. Lastly.. Mexican cuisine. As I referenced in my recent Revolucion de Cuba Milton Keynes review, I enjoy the flavours and ingredients. They’re fresh, vibrant and exciting. I’m also rather partial to salsa, guacamole and nachos.

If you haven’t already guessed, I was rather looking forward to trying out the very latest entrant to the ever-growing Milton Keynes food scene, Taco Shack. Popping over to Wolverton on a sunny Thursday evening, I found the chaps parked up in their new pitch just outside of the Co-Op and Agora Shopping Centre. It was time to get eating. Oh boy!
